I have a pair of 291-K's with bad diaphragms. The originals are Symbiotik. Even if they won't be ideal sonically due to being Phenolic will the 23372 diaphragms for a 290/292 work? I seem to recall that some of the large format HF drivers have a larger gap or some such situation negating the use of certain diaphragms in certain drivers.

No, they won't fit. The 291s are the same drivers as the corresponding 288s, the only difference is the diaphragm. These phragms also fit 299s and the GPA 399, but the 290/292 are totally different drivers and the diaphragms physically don't fit. The 290/292s do have a larger gap to accommodate the thicker voice coil of the phenolic diaphragms.
Well that's disappointing..... I was hoping to get my 291K's up and running cheaply. I don't have the money to buy new aftermarket, much less GPA diaphragms.
